The first pod: Jevon SHannon

JeVon Calvin Shannon was born January 28, 1968 in Jacksonville, Florida on the banks of the St. John’s River to John and Carolyn (Hill) Shannon. Celebrating fifty-five years of ceremony, John Shannon is a retiree of Prudential Insurance Co. and Carolyn has dedicated over 50 years in the cosmetology industry.

Early in life, JeVon accepted Christ and became a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. His first music instrument was the trombone which he practiced for years before perfecting his tune, marching up and down the neighborhood, blowing his horn until achieving his goal as lead drum major and graduate of the historical William M. Raines Senior High School-Class of 1985.

Jevon Shannon was a Renaissance man, always striving to better his craft. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Economics at Florida State University, graduating in 1990. Fresh out of college his first inroads was Prudential. JeVon also worked as a recruiter at Florida Career College before commiting over twenty-five years of his career at American Income Life Insurance, New York Life, Metlife, and State Farm. 

On September 14, 1992, JeVon was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Miss Ruth Renee Jordan and this union was blessed with two children, Wesley and Jessica. 

Mr. Shannon peacefully departed this life in the close comfort of family on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of thirty years of marriage to Mrs. Ruth Renee Jordan Shannon; children, Wesley Shannon and Ms. Jessica Shannon; parents, Mr. John and Carolyn Hill-Shannon; sister, Ms. Mary Duncan Isse; brothers, Jermyn C. Shannon, and Joel C. Shannon; mother-in-law, Mrs. Willa Jordan of Fort Lauderdale, FL; beloved godmother, Ms. Judy Bullock; brother-in-law, Mark Jordan; sisters-in-law, Ms. Dorothy Lyas, Ms. Sonja Jordan and Ms. Carolyn Jordan. Additional special family members James and Annika Hill, Letecia Newman, Sam Cowart, Willetta Hill Calvin, Lawrence Hill, Jr, Sonya Hill, LaShay Hill along with many loving friends, including Julius Baker, Kharis Quaintance, and Dr. Ivan Smith.

JeVon will be cherished by his six grandchildren, great grand and a large number of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives of the Shannon, Walker, Hayes, Robinson, Hill, Scott, Miller and Evan’s family. 

A master of communications, he harnessed his passion and love for scripture with estate planning reinventing his labor of love as a ministry which he served until his last days. Presently, he was self-employed as a Broker at Illinois Mutual and a Regional Director employed by Senior Life Insurance Co. His numerous affiliations include membership in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Iota Delta Chapter. Mr. Shannon is remembered by many as an insurance agent, stock broker, certified financial planner, poet, writer, great dancer and most impressively, a dedicated friend.
